The Whole World Turned Grey
Also, I don’t know if you know
About the special wing over here
Where all the segregated prisoners were
So this is where the paedophiles were
There was a very derogatory name for paedophiles
So I used to do art classes with them as well
And that was
Horrific
And it’s
Difficult to describe
I used to, feel
Terrible at the end of the class
And
Have to kind of spend time
Kind of getting myself back together
The way they looked
The way they walked
Things that they thought were
I don’t know
Difficult
Their look
They were grey
Completely grey
Everything was grey
Their skin colour was grey
Everything was grey
They walked with a style called ‘broken-arse walking’
So, they walk really, really slow
Um, because obviously they’ve got time to kill
It’s possibly to do with abuse
The paedophiles had a very, very odd world view
Very odd
And
They drew very odd things
Very odd
I just found that whole thing
Really, really difficult
With the normal inmate
I could connect with them
Like, “Cool man, that’s cool,”
You know
“I really like what you’re doing here
Let’s see if we can help you.”
And stuff like that
“What do you need to make it better?”
And stuff
“Tell me what’s going on.”
But with the paedophiles
It’s like they were cut off
You couldn’t make a connection with them
So you couldn’t really help them
You wouldn’t get anywhere
Really
And I didn’t really wanna get anywhere
It was like
Phoar
I didn’t like it at all
Yeah
I used to go down to Evans Bay
And
And um
Walk into the water
And kind of wash myself
After each class
Yeah
Just like
The whole world turned grey
For me
